* Low mileage unrestored example of a significant Japanese sports coupe
* Rare 5-speed manual two-seater model
* Excellent running and driving with much history on file
Completely redesigned from the previous 240 and 260Z models, the 280ZX was aimed squarely at the US market, with softer suspension, more sound insulation, more comfortable seats and greater levels of luxury equipment including power steering and high-end audio. The first Datsun to see the Nissan badge used, the 280ZX was usually specified with automatic transmission and it switched from carburettors to fuel injection to meet US emissions requirements. Marketed as a sports two-seater, as seen here, and a 2+2, the 280ZX proved to be a strong seller in the US market and while sales were good in Europe, very few survive in good condition. As restoration costs far outweigh resale values, good original cars like the one presented here are the desirable and intelligent choice.
With its period style of silver over blue two-tone paint and glass sunroof, this Z car has patently been cherished all its life and wears its years very well, testament to its low mileage and careful ownership. Well known by the UK 'Z Club' the car was shown to great acclaim at the 1990 Z Rally celebrations. Cared for by specialists Ainsworth Engineering of Sussex, the Z wears new tyres, fitted in January 2021 and was last regularly used in 2014. It has now been carefully recommissioned and is ready for a new owner to relive the heady days of the 1980s in.
