1961 Blakeney & Wells Ventnor Type 3 Pointer Hydroplane

Estimate: £8,000 - £12,000

1961 Blakeney & Wells Ventnor Type 3 Pointer Hydroplane

This period classic inboard 3 pointer hydroplane has a long history in the short but interesting post war motor boat racing fraternity in North Norfolk.
Young racers around Blakeney and Wells next the Sea acquired a Ventnor type three pointer set of drawings and commissioned local craftsmen to build around half a dozen of these hydroplanes. A 1950s Pathe new clip and amateur film shows one of the races.
Generally fitted with pre-war Austin 7 and Morris 8 engines driving short shafts and requiring the drivers of the day, to kneel, this hydroplane is now fitted with a seat.
"Warzenschwein" was discovered in a barn as a 90% complete but unfinished hull, believed to be the last of this era of racers. It was carefully refurbished and finished by the leading hydroplane expert in East Anglia, Nigel Ringwood, with a power-plant brought over from East Germany in the form of a triple carb 3-cylinder 2 stroke, with the exhaust exiting by the driver's left ear.
With purpose-built trailer it's ideal for classic events in Europe or Classic Motor Boat Association gatherings, on or off the water. Ready to go and in mint condition.
