Bruce Hudson's 'British Light Cars 1930-1939' said of the latter 12/50 model range "it helped to reinstate Alvis' reputation for reliable, straight-forward cars that gave long periods of trouble-free service." This model began life as a saloon that is believed to have been taken off the road in 1960. The project was started by the previous owner who completely disassembled the car, keeping every component boxed. The saloon body being beyond repair was scrapped in the 1970s. Bought by the enthusiast vendor in 2016 it has enjoyed a full restoration completed earlier this year and covered few miles since completion. The coachwork has been replaced by an all-new, coach-painted, duck's-back style body with new ash and marine-ply frame: the vendor says the bodywork is very good, the coachpaint good. The interior has very good seats (trimmed in vinyl) and the mahogany dashboard (like the door cards and flooring, described as very good) houses correct instruments. Engine starting, running and presentation is said to be very good and the running gear is said to be very good – the axles and gearbox have been re-built. The electrics are said to be very good. Some history accompanies this lot. Offering an affordable route into Vintage Sports-Car Club events this Alvis is ready to be enjoyed by its new custodian.
