*Complete three-years restoration
*Type 49 shell
*Few minor non-standard deviations
The Twin Cam is the original – and some might say best – performance Escort and this superbly-presented example is one of fewer than 900 built, making it the stuff of Ford legend. Built at Haleweood in October 1968 it has had five owners from new, one keeping it from 1983 until 2016, its next owner undertaking the three-year long restoration. The correct Type 49 shell is reported as being re-built to the highest standards, both on top and underneath. The engine is said to have been fully re-built with twin Webers running with the correct filter box and the vendor reports it is starting and running very well. 'Twink' enthusiasts will also note the correct 'cheese'-shaped water bottle, Girling remote servo and anti-tramp bar rear axle. Drivetrain is described as being equally good with the suspension and axles being re-conditioned or replaced and the electrical system was overhauled. The interior has been restored to the same high levels as the bodyshell: the seats, carpet, dashboard and headlining are all in very good order with most trim re-newed. In all a highly desirable, rare performance Ford with all the work completed.
Every now and then a car achieves legendary status, and to many the Escort Twin Cam is one such example. This 1968-build car enjoys a loyal following and for anyone after the ultimate fast Ford, the answer is here. Trade Vendor
