When it comes to long-distance classic rallies the 1930s American car reigns supreme, offering reliability, longevity and a ruggedness other cars of the same era simply cannot match. If proof was needed this 1938 Buick has successfully completed the Road to Mandalay road rally without issue, the vendor reports. And while it clearly has travelled many miles it is still in fine order, having received a rotisserie restoration not long after it was bought in 2013. The body was removed from the chassis, the floor re-plated and numerous elements added for endurance rallying, including roll cage (the headlining has been retained), aluminium axle and gearbox shields, over-sized tyres and a long-range fuel tank. These were accompanied by a fully re-built engine and the invoice for £6,799 is on file. Once mechanically and structurally sorted the body, which still presents well, was painted metallic red and lilac, reflecting the original intentions of restoring it to show standard. The interior, much of which is original bar the more recent front seats, is in good order. Starting on the button and running very well, this ready-to-go Buick offers much potential, whether on the show circuit or in the exciting sphere of classic rallying.
