*True old-school vintage hot rod
*Running stroked small-block Chevrolet V8
*Much success on the strip
The UK's traditional hot rod movement has grown considerably in recent years and this Model A ticks all the right boxes, be it looks, performance or history. Owned by clothing purveyor Johnny Diablo, this traditional-style five-window looks back to the earlier days of rodding with a 1932 Ford grille, a 1940 Ford dropped front and a 1959 Ford rear end. But it's not just the looks that count: Any hot rod's heart is the engine and a glance at the technical specification sets any rodder's heart pounding: a small block 406 Chevrolet that suggests the rumoured 600-plus horsepower output through its Holley 650 double-pumper and Edelbrock intake, power being delivered to the rear end (differential incidentally being rebuilt last year) through a Muncie SM465 straight-cut four-speed manual 'box, all sitting on a boxed chassis that was re-worked in 2017. That power speaks for itself: it won the Atomic Hot Rod Drags from 2014 to 2017, won the Hotrod Hayride Dirt Drags in 2018, posted 13.2 seconds run (116mph) at Santa Pod last year and class records at Pendine in 2015 and 2016. For a first step into the rarified world of traditional hot rods this highly-sorted, competitive five-window is an opportunity that should not be missed.
