Continuing a theme started with the early 1970s Elite model, the Excel updated the philosophy while staying true to Lotus' mix of handling and performance. This example is more unusual in being painted metallic blue and the paint, along with the bodywork, is in very good order, with no signs of stone chips to the front bumper/spoiler or behind the rear wheels. Shutlines are notably good and the vendor reports that the wheels have been refurbished recently. Also in fine fettle is the engine bay, which is clean, tidy and shows no signs of serious wear. The interior presents well, with the seat fabric very clean and showing no signs of mistreatment. Door cards, dashboard and centre console remain in very good order. Recently serviced and coming with plenty of history, this Excel should appeal to all lovers of later Lotuses.
